Members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community face the same legal problems that everyone else in society faces. They also face an additional set of legal and social challenges -- issues particular to them involving individual, relationship and parental rights -- that those outside of the GLBT community may never even have to consider, let alone confront.
For example, the state of Texas refuses to recognize the existence of any same-sex relationship -- even one granted in another state -- thus denying to same-sex couples the same rights and protections it automatically grants to a heterosexual marriage.
Furthermore, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgenders in Texas often face additional obstacles in attempting to adopt children, or gain or enforce their rights as parents or guardians.
Despite these barriers, an LGBT couple or parent can attain most of the same key rights and protections granted to heterosexuals. To protect yourself and your family, however, you need to work with a competent, informed and caring attorney who can explain your options, help you plan, and assist you in taking the actions you must take well before the need arises.
That is where we come in. Treating you with dignity, respect and compassion, we understand your needs and will be there to advocate for your interests.
It is just one of the ways we strive to be a different kind of law firm.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
The GLBT Life Planning Roadmap
GLBT Law stretches across a broad range of such legal areas as estate planning and probate, family law, elder law, business law/business startups, contract law, labor and employment, housing and consumer rights, constitutional rights, and several others.
At The Gormly Law Firm, we focus primarily on providing and defending relationship rights and on establishing business arrangements that support LGBT rights generally.
Based on extensive research, Eric Gormly has created an extensive library of legal instruments that will enable members of the GLBT community the most protection available under current laws. The Gormly Law Firm also provides highly effective legal representation in estate, probate, family law and business matters that affect the GLBT community and other non-traditional families.
We have brought all of this together under what we call The GLBT Life Planning Roadmap.
WHAT YOU GAIN
We will develop a set of legal instruments tailored to meet your specific needs, and will step in immediately to represent you if anyone challenges the rights or interests of you, your life partner or your child.
Plus, unlike same-sex marriages, civil unions or domestic partnerships, federal law requires other states to recognize these documents as legally enforceable. This means you carry these rights with you, and can lawfully assert them if you travel or move to another state.
Please do not delay. Unless you act, you may be risking the rights and protections you and your family need and deserve.
