Background
A Dallas/Fort Worth native, Eric Gormly brings a widely diverse background to his law practice. Growing up, Eric was active in the performing arts and became an avid writer. After completing a bachelor's degree in journalism at The University of Texas at Austin, Eric spent a decade as a television news reporter, working in such markets as Houston, San Antonio and St. Louis. As an award-winning investigative reporter, his work included exposing political corruption in the Corpus Christi area, forcing the shutdown of a fraudulent business chain in San Antonio, and highlighting insurance scams by unscrupulous homebuilders around Houston.
Eric left the daily newsroom to build an academic career, earning a Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin and going on to teach media law, journalism and broadcast production at several major universities. His students have built successful careers at leading media outlets, both in the United States and internationally.
While on faculty at a university in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Eric decided to finally pursue his lifelong passion for law. He earned a J.D. from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, is licensed to practice in Texas, and now runs his own law firm in Dallas.
Eric's upbringing, experiences and relationships over the years have brought him in close contact with a broad range of people. This has enabled him to gain a personal understanding of the challenges faced by people from a diversity of cultures and all walks of life.
Through his professional background, legal education and life experiences, Eric has developed an in-depth knowledge of a range of legal areas as well as a broad set of skills that allows him to excel as an attorney, advocate, negotiator, counselor and communicator.
